.) The overall winner of today is lopsidedness. In girls soccer, we had scores of 5-0, 6-0 (3 of those), 8-0, and 9-0. Can't forget about 8-1 either. On the boys side, 5-0, 6-0, 6-0, 10-1.. that was just in the Colonial. There was also another 5-0, 6-1 and 9-0 floating around. That's 14 games being decided by 92 goals, around a 6.6 goal per game average... there are good teams, there are bad teams, and there's not much middle ground in the second section.
.) I'm all for really interesting non-league matches. Big fan. CCHS/Scotia girls soccer is exactly that. So I automatically give credit to both sides for having this one on the schedule, especially a week before sectionals. Without LaPlant on the field for the Q, I have to call Scotia the favorite in A, and CCHS is the one team that I see giving Schalmont issues in B. Dom Puglisi gets herself onto the Fab 5 list today, scoring twice and dropping off an assist in Scotia's 4-3 W.
.) Bieber Fever in Lake George! Kira Bieber was the only one who scored on either team in their game against Whitehall - but instead of a lone goal hero, she was the hat trick hero. She tallied all 3 in their 3-0 W over the Railroaders. She wasn't the only hat tricker though. Val Taylor (AAG), Veda Hensel (Voorheesville), Liv Seamans (Bolton/Warrensburg), and Ya Trick Ya Van Ness (Saratoga) also knocked the ball in the back of the net on three separate occasions.
.) Speaking of Liv Seamans - in the race for the leading scorer in Section 2, I think she just took the lead. The hat trick put her at 36 for the season if my math is correct, which inches her ahead of the idle Brittany LaPlant and her main competition for the scoring lead, Carly Johnson.
.) Justin Brehm is the proverbial thorn in the aching sides of the Shenendehowa Plainsmen. 2 of Shen's 3 losses have come at the hands of Shaker. Both of those were 1-0 games. Justin Brehm was the one who finished it off in both of those games, including the 1st half tally tonight. Hey, I mean he may not be their leading scorer (now he's tied) but still. Umm, mark that guy. The one that beat you last time.
