Fab Five for Section 2, October 15

1.) South High... how about South High?! They snuck into the state rankings, now #18 in A and sure to move up after what they just did to Broadalbin-Perth. The #7 ranked team in Class B got demolished - teams don't just beat B-P 4-0. But Alec Potter's hat trick and some stout defense got the job done. An own goal started it, but it was Alec from there - SGF outshot B-P 12-3 on their senior night.

2.) Mayfield completed their turnaround tonight. After starting the season 1-3... well, they still haven't lost. They've went 10-0-1 since that loss to Galway, and a 6-1 decision over Canajoharie clinched them at least a tie of the WAC North title - their first in 11 years. Todd Briggs scores like a frat boy on a Friday, and he had a hat trick again tonight. Jack Albertin had some numbers worth mentioning too, 2 goals & 2 dimes.

3.) Troy girls were able to avenge 2 losses to Albany (within the same 7 day period in late September) behind a pair of Theresa Stinson goals, winning by the score of 4-2. Eliza Stewart added a goal & an assist for the winners, who have made their way from the mini-slump a couple weeks ago to win their last 2.

4.) Who cares about fall sports, Kevin Huerter won't have to pay his college tuition! Will Brown looks like he's trying to win local, as the UAlbany men's basketball program just offered the Shenendehowa junior a scholarship. Young fella's smooth. I want to see what other offers he's about to get this year.

5.) Running out of ideas, so I'll give Mekeel boys soccer & Mechanicville girls soccer some love here. On #WhyTryWednesday, they shared the Get The Lube beatdown of the night - the school formerly known as Schenectady Christian beat Sharon Springs 7-0, and Mechanicville did the same to Hoosic (no K) Valley (no Falls, but they fell in this one... down into a valley). Thank you! I'll be here all night.

Not the world's most newsworthy night, besides Kevin at least!
