The Fab Five of Section 3, October 14

1.) Two girls soccer teams ranked in the top 10 in the state were pushed to OT before winning by multiple goals - Jamesville-Dewitt nearly played victim for Homer's 2nd state-ranked upset, but they dropped a pair of goals after the 80th minute to win 3-1. Homer's showing they're going to be a verrry tricky out in sectionals though. C-NS had the same issue. The #9 team in AA got pushed to OT by West Genesee before really turning on the jets and getting the 3-0 win.

2.) On the other end of the spectrum, Whitesboro didn't exactly need OT to get by Notre Dame. They probably didn't even need more than 8 on the field. Mariah Williams & Alexa DeCarr had a hat trick and a dime apiece, Natalie Kozlowski & Rebecca Juliano had 2 goals each (Kozlowski 2 assists too) and the Warriors won... wait for it... 14-1. Yeah. Not to be outdone, Cazenovia girls put up a baker's dozen on Phoenix and won 13-0. Saige Ackerman & Audrey Burbidge both made the scoreboard guy work thrice, and Lizzy Bigsby & Casey Crawford scored 2 apiece.

3.) Breaking records. Jess Welsh already shattered the Section III record in career fockey goals earlier this season. The Hamilton senior had 5 of Morrisville-Eaton/Hamilton's 6 goals and assisted on the other in their 6-3 W over Sauquoit. The first goal put her into Ben Franklin territory, and she's now standing on top of the Section III world at 104 goals and climbing!

4.) Little Falls girls may have clinched CSC II, but the hottest team right now is West Canada. After a 3-4 start, they've won 7 of their last 8 games after a 4-0 win over Dolgeville. 5 of those victories have been shutouts, including 4 straight. With just 2 win Westmoreland left on their schedule, you expect them to be on a real hot streak heading into sectionals.

5.) Survival. Fayetteville-Manlius boys, ranked #3 in AA, had to overcome a halftime deficit with a pair of 2nd half goals by Tysen Tresness to beat Henninger 2-1. They've been the cardiac kids lately: 3 of their last 4 games have been 1 goal wins, and the game before this one took 2 overtimes to get the win.

Extra Notes
Poland boys won (again) over Remsen last night. 3 of their 4 wins have been against the Rams... It was beatdown day in girls soccer, with 8 teams winning by 7 or more goals... A little bit of home-field advantage. Between boys/girls soccer & field hockey, home teams went 34-23-2 yesterday... Marie Aloi & Megan Caveny dropped 5 goals apiece in CNS' 13-0 fockey win over Auburn. Chill button was out of order... If someone catches Jess Welsh on that career goals mark, it'll be Alyssa Curtis. The Golden Knight turned Camden Blue Devil had 3 of her team's 4 in an impressive 4-0 W over Baldwinsville. The junior is already at 91 in her career!
